Using PCs to do what Nintendon’t, YouTube user renebarahona is running Wii games in HD resolutions through the Dolphin emulator. One peek at Super Smash Bros. Brawl in 720p is enough to make any of us wonder what a world where Nintendo didn’t hate HD (even yanking 480p capability from the Gamecube, we’re still not over that) would be like. These games aren’t merely upscaled like DVDs, they’re being rendered in a high resolution natively with extra anti-aliasing Xbox 360 BC-style , produci

Now that we’re in the third year of the Age of Wii, Nintendo’s popular console is pretty easy to find. Which means that a lot more people are learning its unpleasant secret: There are a lot of terrible games for this system.

click to enlarge Little Mac is definitely back, and he brought Doc Louis with him. He's also hauling a heck of a lot more pixels this time around, and we're happy to report that Punch-Out!! is indeed still fun to play. The Nintendo booth (the largest and lone major gaming publisher on the show floor) was showing off Punch-Out!! on a few stations, although sadly without the Balance Board functionality that's coming to the game. It did show off four of the thirteen total fighters, includi

The title says it all. According to Nintendo's suggested age range, 5-105, I just sneak in on the higher end so I'm allowed to review this. I usually get sick of games pretty quick but this game is both challenging and fun. A rare combination. While getting zapped 5 times by the computer is fustrating you have [ ... ]

March 29th, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by ValayWe briefly touched on this earlier this week with the Nintendo Voice Chat podcast summary, but I thought this deserved a post of its own.Hardcore Wii owners can expect a treat next month, as a “totally badass” third-party game is on the way. IGN’s Matt Casamassia was hyping up the game on the latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast. He says the game is a high-quality title and emphasized that it is “really good.”“I’ll tell you one thing that’s

It's not the type of news that will overly worry Sony, but is slightly embarrassing nonetheless. During Nintendo's keynote speech at GDC, the company's president Satoru Iwata revealed that the number of Wii Balance Boards sold is almost the same as the number of Sony PS3s. The bar graph to the right demonstrates just how close the figures are. The top two lines are the Wii and Xbox 360, followed by the PS3 and Wii Balance Board respectively. Such huge sales certainly bode well for developers w

The new Flud watch called “The Cartridge” is amazing. I’m not even the big watch type but Flud is converting me with every new design they come out with. Plus anything that has to do with hiphop, gaming, and being fly (and on time), The Koalition is the people to see. I asked Mel from Flud to give us a small back story on the creation of the new watch: The Cartridge watch is our way to show appreciation for the hobby that we easily partake in the most: playing video games. It’s clearly in

Here’s a really cool DIY on how to make a stealth cat litterbox . I’ve personally seen some really awful setups and I heard cat poop can be very poisonous for the human body but here’s a great way to keep everything sanitized and out of your way. I added a couple litter mats $20, one inside, one outside, and the litter tracking is almost non-existent. I put rails on the bottom of the cabinet to make the box easier to slide out for cleaning, provide some storage space to stuff litter bags,

March 29th, 2009 Posted in News, Wii, Written by ValayRumors regarding Wii MotionPlus and a wake-boarding title for Wii have popped up from the Game Developer’s Conference which took place last week. The Wii MotionPlus speculation isn’t actually about the peripheral’s technology, but rather, the add-on might release with a jacket that cannot be taken off. Think of it as the Wii controller’s rubber casing, except you would have no choice but to leave the jacket on MotionPlus. As far as the wak

We already know that Let’s Tap was coming to North America , now it seems that Let’s Catch will also get a western release. ESRB recently rated Let’s Catch , meaning Sega either plans on releasing it on Wiiware soon or they like to spend money to tease Yuji Naka fanboys. I always thought the game’s concept was a bit lame, throwing a ball at your virtual kid, but after reading the description that ESRB gave of the game, I think I’m going to purchase it. “This is a sports game in whic

In the First Thirty of Deadly Creatures , I was entranced by the setting and level design, but a little put off by the waggle. As it turns out, this is an accurate summary of the entire game. I finished the game this week, to the tune of over ten hours of killing beetles and dodging snakes… not to mention stinging Dennis Hopper in the crotch. There is nothing quite like Deadly Creatures on the Wii racks. For that reason alone, it’s worth a look. With all the barely-restrained flamboyance of a

Tough task: Designing a game about your ‘first time’ : On Wednesday, at the Game Developers Conference here, the two-woman team of Heather Kelley and Erin Robinson won the Game Design Challenge with just 36 hours of preparation, while their competitors had weeks to come up with concepts for a game about “your first time.” The two women came up with a concept for “Our first times,” and presented it as a two-level game, one level for Kelley’s experience and the other for Robinson’s. Click here to view the embedded video. I can still vividly remember ripping open my rectangle shaped Christmas present in December 1987 and seeing Mike Tyson on the box and thinking how cool it was going to be. I was 6 at the time and Nintendo and Mike Tyson were the coolest things. I had a Mike Tyson poster next to my Nintendo Power centerfolds. After checking out all the new Wii Punch-Out!! videos, I had to fire up my NES and beat this game.
